Also, what are the chances of domestic rabbits surviving in the wild if they are a large breed and are use to the outdoor extreme temperatures?
Are there laws in New Jersey against letting domestic rabbits loose in the wild?

Well there chances for survival are very low because they don’t have the instincts that wild rabbits have so they are easier to be hunted my predators. Also no there is not, but if a police were to see you then they would charge you with animal cruelty.
I don’t know if its against the law persay, but it should be!!!!!!!!!! NO DOMESTIC ANIMAL SHOULD BE REALEASED INTO THE WILD! Your rabbit will DIE FOR SURE in a matter of DAYS!!! They don’t know how to find food or escape predators. If you can’t take care of your pet or don’t want it (which is stupid and irresponsible) then please take it to your local humane society or put an add in the newspaper, don’t set it free, you will be killing it if you do that.
You’re kidding, right?
just bring the poor thing to an animal shelter. or put an ad on craigslist. Never set an animal free… thats not fair…
can anyone be so irresponsible???!!!???
Yes, there are laws against this and you should NEVER allow a domestic animal to roam wild. They can often become feral and compete with native animals for food. Many animals have been driven extinct because feral animals have competed with them for food.
Just take your rabbit to the animal shelter if you don’t want it anymore, they accept rabbits as well as cats and dogs.
Well thank you for warning us to notify the ASPCA. Yes, there are laws. For starters, try cruelty to animals.
The rabbit will not survive. The rabbit doesn’t have the instinct to survive in the wild on it’s own. The rabbit is used to some stupid and lazy human providing him with food and fresh water, and a clean cage, along with hay, love and care… but that was too much to expect – so now the rabbit is road kill on the turnpike.
If you don’t want to keep your rabbit, or know someone who’s that stupid enough to actually let one loose – just google the House Rabbit Society in NJ or a local shelter. They’ll be nice and take proper care of the rabbit and try and find it a good home.
