Can two unspayed female rabbits live together?

in Questions about Rabbits

Our older rabbits is two years old and recently we got a younger rabbit who is 4-6 months old. They are both unspayed. Our older rabbit has a large pin outside where she lives. We are wondering if it’s safe to allow the younger one live in the pin with the older one, once they get used to each other.

Thanks in advance.

My female rabbit lives outside, too. Yes it is ideal to keep rabbits indoors, but honestly, this rabbit is crazy wild and runs and hides when she sees people. She is much happier outdoors. If your rabbit has a warm safe place to get out of the weather and stay safe from dogs, cats, etc., she’s fine outside. Two female rabbits can coexist, but if your two do not get along you need to have a back up plan. Ideally, female rabbits should be spayed because rabbit female reproductive diseases are common. Mine is not spayed and she is 7 years old and healthy.

i look nothing like this :( 11.21.09 at 12:31 pm

Female rabbits can be highly aggressive, and often fight unless they are neutered. I am surprised you don’t already have aggression problems with your older female as they are very common. I would strongly suggest getting both rabbits neutered before attempting to house them together – this will significantly reduce the risk of fighting.

More importantly, spaying is vital for their health. Up to 80% of female rabbits are dead by the age of 5 from uterine cancer (only half their natural lifespan). This is completely prevented by spaying.
