in Questions about Rabbits

My room is small and that doesn’t help with my rabbits urine stinking. Anyways, is there a natural product I could put in there to help with smell? I have tried cleaning with vinegar, it doesn’t help too much, Can I put baking soda in there? Any suggestions?

Baking soda will help for sure. Also try pet order eliminating sprays.

Do you use a odour absorbing litter? Something like Carefresh or Yesterday’s News? That and vinegar work wonders. I have two rabbits living in my room in separate cages right now and I never smell anything related to them. Well, beyond the hay, but really, hay is possibly the best smell there is.

Use straight vinegar and let it soak for awhile and try using a paper-based litter. Clean out the litter itself every day or every other day and make sure to clean the box at least once a week with vinegar.

Hi There, Apart from Duskburn’s very good advice, are your rabbits spayed/neutered? If not, their urine will have a much stronger scent than unspayed/neutered rabbits. The difference is quite remarkable.

I personally used pelleted wood litter, often sold as wood stove pellets (untreated). I find this litter totally absorbs urine smell.
God Bless

I would recommend a product line called SNAP, which stands for Safe, Natural for Animals & People.

SNAP S.O.S. (Smoke, Odor, Stain eliminator)
http://www.marketamerica.com/LCBEAUTY/index.cfm?action=shopping.wpGoShopProducts&prodID=2291

It is an environmental-friendly cleaning spray with biodegradable, non-toxic and phosphate-free, naturally occurring enzymes in recyclable bottle.

The naturally-occurring enzymes in Snap S.O.S. break down organic odor-producing products in H2O (water) and CO2 (carbon dioxide).

It virtually eliminates, on contact, odors from stale cigarette and cigar smoke, urine and fecal matter, vomit, food spillage, garbage, cooked foods, perspiration and pet odor, including skunk. (So it has no problem with your rabbit smell concern at all)

It also eliminates many organic stains from carpets, rugs, linens and clothing quickly and safely without the need for potentially harmful chemicals because enzymes break down protein, starches and fats that may be found in organically-caused stains like food stains, sweat or dirt.

Air fresheners and most odor eliminators on the market are simply a combination of chemicals and fragrances to mask other odors. Snap S.O.S is free of aerosols and other synthetic or harmful chemicals; it is simply a combination of natural fragrance, water and naturally-occurring enzymes.

It makes great everyday cleaning spray & odor eliminator!

Great for environment and safe for people & animals.

Another pet care product I would recommend is called Pet Magic.

• Uses enzymes to accelerate the breakdown of stains and odors

• Perfect for carpets, upholstered furniture, and drapery

• Absorbs even the toughest odors

• Spray in cat litter boxes, bird or gerbil cages, or horse stables

• Safe for use directly on animals as a deodorizer

• Helps eliminate carpet stains created by pet urine and fecal matter

• Non-toxic

• Environmentally friendly

*First clean the litterbox with vinegar and rinse. Air dry. Go to any lumber yard and buy a few bags of sand. Place a layer of sand down, then a layer of cat litter. Change box every three days. Each time you clean the litter box you must clean with vinegar first. No baking soda as this will go up there nose and cause respiratory problems. The sand is natural, does not harm them in any way and obsorbs the smell. This is the only method I find effective.
