Is a male maltese or female maltese more compatible with my two pet rabbits?

in Questions about Rabbits

I have two pet rabbits and I’m planning on getting a maltese puppy. I heard that females are more protective and will bark at other animals, but I wanted people’s opinions.

Neither. dogs and rabbits don’t mix. Even dogs who "never bother" the rabbit will in the wrong circumstances. Lost a special buck by entrusting him in the room with a trusted dog who had never gone after a rabbit…unknown what happened but lost him. Rabbits and dogs don’t mix – especially puppies. They can be playing and kill a rabbit.

I would take a wild guess and say that a female will be more protective and motherly if you raise them together. Like introduce your puppy to them right away. I don’t think it really truly has anything to do with the gender of the puppy. But in how you raise the puppy and introduce the puppy to the rabbits.
Good Luck with that!!

Neither one. No matter what size or sex dog you get, rabbits will be seen as prey.

You’ll have to keep a very close eye on whatever dog you get and make sure the rabbits are in secure, sturdy cages that the dog can’t get into.

Males are much more active as puppies when compared to the female. Females get even crazier with age. And by puppy, I’m talking within the first few weeks you have them. BEST OF LUCK! Maltese’s are great! You’ll never be lonely.
